Francis J. Durocher, Chiropractor in Amsterdam
My name is Francis Durocher, I am chiropractor in Amsterdam. I founded Optimum Chiropractie in 2015. Over the last twenty years, the central question I have explored in both my work and study is: “How can we reach optimal health and express our full human potential?” I have always viewed this question as a call for endless improvement and continual growth – not only for individuals, but also for communities as a whole.
My preferred approach for continuous improvement in health is a holistic, vitalistic and natural approach, one which respects the body and enhances its innate healing capacity; a capacity everyone has.
Here’s a bit about me and about my life as a chiropractor in Amsterdam.
I was lucky enough to grow up in a small town in the northern part of Canada. As a child, I loved swimming, fishing in the lake and playing in the woods. Being so close to nature made me realise that we are all part of a large ecosystem, that we are deeply connected with nature and how important it is to take care of it.
One lesson I learnt early in life, when my father was diagnosed with MS, is that health is extremely precious and shouldn’t be taken for granted. My dad’s journey made me realise just how limited modern medicine treating chronic illnesses. All it appears to do is control the symptoms with medication which often have unfortunate side effects.
I had the desire to help people improving their health but a question stayed with me. Wouldn’t it be better, instead of focussing on the symptoms, to address the root cause of the disease? I began to search for a different approach to health, something that reflected my values, then I discovered chiropractic. Since then, chiropractic has become part of my lifestyle and, just like having a healthy diet, exercising and meditating daily, my weekly chiropractic adjustments help me to function at my optimal level.
After graduating from the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières in 2003, I practiced in various practices in Canada and France. After completing my post-graduate studies in Functional Neurology with the Carrick Institute, I moved to the Netherlands and, since 2007, I am happy and proud to call Amsterdam home.
I have several other interests beside chiropractic. I love to read and I have a special interest in languages. When I am not in the practice, you can find on my boat or travelling, hiking or skiing, enjoying a spot in nature. I find the world we live in absolutely fascinating. Discovering new cultures and meeting people is, for me, hugely rewarding.
To finish, I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to thrive and express their full potential. Children should be able to grow in a safe and non-toxic environment, and adults should be able to enjoy a purposeful, fulfilling and active life for as long as possible.
I am grateful everyday for chiropractic, for the positive impact it has on my health and also, for it gives me the opportunity to help others improving their health so they can be the best they can!
Here a few quotes that resonate with me:
‘I think the most important question facing humanity is: ‘Is our universe a friendly place?’ This is the first and most basic question all people must answer for themselves. – Albert Einstein –
‘You cannot hope to build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end, each of us must work for his/her own improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful.’– Marie Curie –
